Reflections on Mainland Study Tours

2025, Class 5C, Wong Yan

My previous trips to Zhuhai were for leisure and entertainment, but this study tour left a deep impression on me.

Our first stop was By-Health Biotechnology Co., where I learned about the intricacies of health supplement production. We conducted an experiment creating strawberry-flavored milk using various additives-without any real strawberries or milk-highlighting the importance of reading product labels.

Next, we visited the Zhuhai Space Center, which showcased the mysteries of the universe, aviation equipment, and passenger aircraft. This deepened my appreciation for the significance of aerospace development to the nation.

The following day, we toured Beijing Normal University Zhuhai Campus, attended a lecture, and participated in a plant-dyeing workshop. Creating my own dyed product was incredibly rewarding.

Our final stop was a Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao modern agriculture demonstration park. Assembling a hydroponic device was fascinating, and the lectures on smart agriculture revealed how technology enhances efficiency and yield. This experience solidified my interest in pursuing STEM fields.

Overall, the tour broadened my horizons and was immensely beneficial.

2023, Class 5C, Luo Hui Xuan

This Guangzhou study tour deepened my appreciation for the power of Chinese traditional culture.

At the Liwan Museum, the architecture reflected ancient wisdom. The blend of Chinese and Western furniture showcased the cultural influences of the time. The exhibit on "Xiguan ladies" revealed societal norms, where women could glimpse the outside world but rarely step beyond their doors.

The Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum displayed breathtaking artifacts unique to Guangdong. It saddened me to think how these crafts risk fading away due to modern lifestyles. The dedication of artisans preserving these traditions is truly admirable.

A pearl-embroidered tulip painting captivated me. The meticulous craftsmanship and time invested were awe-inspiring. This experience strengthened my resolve to study Chinese traditional culture and contribute to its preservation.

These reflections highlight the profound impact of the study tours on students' perspectives and aspirations.
